“Had a dream we’d be rock n’ roll stars…

Our old band only made it so far.

Now we’re back to give another dose.

Check it out… Los Lancheros.”

Back in the mid 1990’s, four young men from Long Island formed a band named Concrete Lifeboat. Fusing punk, funk, metal and folk, these boys tore up the local scene playing show after show following the release of two critically acclaimed albums.

Their legendary live shows and wild antics amassed a following of miscreants, hooligans and beautiful ladies.  But sadly, life got in the way of art, as it often does, and the band played their last show in New York City in 1997.

Brian, the drummer, graduated from the prestigious Five Towns College where he later became a Music Educator, multi-instrumentalist and baseball coach.  After receiving a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Johnny, the guitarist, pursued a career in Marine Law Enforcement after brief stints as a Private Investigator and Sports Journalist.  Barney, the singer/bassist, earned two degrees from Stony Brook University and embarked on a decades long career ensuring the quality of services for the intellectually disabled until he lost his mind and moved to Florida.

Although they would hang out and jam on occasion to write song parodies mocking their old friends, they did not write any new original material together.

But, as we are all aware, a weird thing happened in 2020.  Months of isolation and frustration led to increased creativity, which sparked the desire to collaborate once again.

Johnny dusted off his Izotope Spire digital 8-track, and Brian and Barney each got their own.  They immediately began writing songs and emailing them to each other to write and record their respective parts.  One song led to two, two songs led to four and within the space of a year an entire album of new material was born.  They utilized their shared history and musical chemistry as the foundation and built upon it in various new directions.

It is important to note that these three men were never physically in the same room for the recording of the aforementioned album, entitled Overdue. Through the use of a smartphone app, one would write the music to a full song on his respective instrument(s), then send it to the other two who would "fill in the blanks" with their own sonic stylings.  Without the traditional luxury of jamming and writing together in real time, this was a creative exercise in trust, respect and instinct. One that was certainly long overdue.

"We are Los Lancheros and it's time we bring it back."
